What My Tesla Taught Me About Letting God Drive: Trusting His Redirection When Life Feels Out of Control 🚘

So, this morning, somewhere between Rockwall and the DFW chaos, God decided to use my beautiful Tesla to whisper a sermon to me.

Now listen, I didn’t buy a Tesla to save the planet, I bought it because it’s fast. 😎
I love how it drives.
It’s zippy, smooth, and honestly makes me feel like I’m flying through life with a little too much confidence and a whole lot of joy. But today, I hit the “self-drive” button. No hands. No control. Just a whole lot of faith in the machine!!

And then it hit me,
I trust a car made by humans, powered by batteries, and updated through Wi-Fi,
but do I really trust the God who spoke the stars into existence to steer my life?

Y’all. I was convicted in the fast lane.

🚦 The Illusion of Control

Let’s be honest, I like control. Most likely because of my years as a nurse practitioner in hospitals, where being in control meant saving lives, preventing chaos, and keeping things from falling apart. That mindset works in medicine, but not so much with God.
I like knowing the next turn, how long it’ll take to get there, and what the ETA is on my breakthrough.

But the truth? Control is just fear wearing lip gloss. 💄

Because when I’m clutching the wheel of my life, what I’m really saying is:
“God, I don’t trust YOU to handle this.”

And that one stung!!

Isaiah 55:8–9 hit me right in the gut: GUT PUNCH!!

“My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways.”

We pray, “Jesus, take the wheel,” but then we side-eye Him like,
“Okay, but not that road. I meant the smooth one with the Starbucks drive-thru, please.” 😂

🦋 The Day I Finally Let Go

I wrote about this moment in Warrior Mom Rising, one of the hardest days of my life.

Chloe had just come out of a therapy appointment, and I sat in the parking lot, completely undone.
I was gripping the steering wheel so tightly my hands ached. I was exhausted, emotionally, spiritually, physically. I had prayed, pleaded, and planned myself into the ground.

And then, in that suffocating silence, God whispered:
“You don’t have to carry this alone.”

I lost it.
Tears. Mascara. Snot. The whole thing.
It was ugly, but it was holy.

That was the day I realized SURRENDER isn’t weak, it’s warfare.
It’s the moment you stop trying to fix what you were never meant to control.
It’s where faith becomes real, and not the pretty kind we post about, but the gritty kind that shows up when life breaks you open.

🚧 When God Reroutes You

Here’s what I’ve learned: sometimes God doesn’t take you the fastest way or the easiest way, He takes you HIS way, the faith way.

The scenic route.
The “why are we going this way?” route.
The “is this really necessary?” route.

And you know what?
Every single time, He’s right.

Proverbs 16:9 says,

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

We plan comfort, He plans character.
We plan speed, He plans strength.
We plan control, He plans trust.

So when He reroutes you, it’s not punishment, it’s protection.
He sees the traffic jam you can’t!!!
He knows the wreck you’re about to cause trying to rush ahead.

Sometimes His redirection is the only reason you’re still standing.

Now let that sink in for a minute.

Maybe you’re in a season where you feel like you’ve been gripping the wheel hard.
You’re tired, frustrated, maybe even mad at God because you can’t see what He’s doing.

Listen, I’ve been there.
And here’s what I know, you can’t control your way into peace.
You can only surrender your way into it.

Romans 8:28 reminds us,

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

All things.
Not just the pretty ones. Not just the easy ones. All of it, the heartbreak, the waiting, the reroutes, the unexpected stops.

You can trust His hands more than yours.
He’s not just driving, He’s developing you in the process.

🔥 Warrior Mom Truth:

Stop fighting for the wheel.
You were never meant to white-knuckle your way through life.
The same God who built the road, who designed the map, and who sees every twist and turn ahead, knows exactly where He’s taking you.

You don’t have to understand the route to trust the Driver.
He knows when to accelerate, when to slow you down, and when to take that hard left you didn’t see coming.
Every delay, every detour, every dead end, He’s using all of it to redirect you toward your purpose.

So take your hands off the wheel.
Loosen your shoulders.
Exhale.

And let Him drive. 🚗

Because when God’s in control, the pressure lifts.
The striving stops.
And even the rough roads start to make sense.

Every detour becomes direction.
Every no becomes protection.
Every curve becomes character.

And the view from the passenger seat?
It’s not chaos.
It’s PEACE.
Deep, soul-level peace! The kind that only comes when you finally stop steering and start trusting.

With grit, grace, and a little fire,
