The Weight Mothers Carry 🦋

The Weight Mothers Carry 🦋
📖 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
There’s a chapter in Warrior Mom Rising that still takes my breath away when I think about it.
We were in the middle of the hardest season of our lives, Chloe’s anxiety, depression, and self-harm had consumed everything. I was terrified all the time. Every ring of my phone made my stomach drop. Every silence made me hold my breath.
I remember standing in the hallway outside her bedroom, praying she was okay. I hadn’t really slept, eaten, or really breathed in days. My body was shaking, and my mind wouldn’t stop. I was trying so hard to fix it, to control what I couldn’t.
And right there, in the middle of the mess, I heard the Lord whisper:
“You were never meant to carry this alone.”
That moment was my breaking point, but it was also the beginning of SURRENDER.
Because I realized I’d been carrying everyone’s pain on my back like it was my job to save them. But I’m not the Savior. He is.
đź©· You Were Never Meant to Carry It All
We live in a world that glorifies overdoing, do more, fix more, give more, hold it all together. MORE AND HUSTLE HARDER is what the world yells!
But that’s NOT the gospel.
Jesus never asked us to carry the full weight of our world.
He said, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
That’s not a suggestion, it’s an invitation.
When we carry the things meant for God’s shoulders, it breaks us down body, mind, and spirit.
And my body was breaking.
đź’ś When Stress Becomes Spiritual
As a nurse practitioner, I knew what chronic stress does to our bodies. I knew how cortisol floods your system, sleep disappears, hormones crash, and your body starts to feel like it’s betraying you.
But that night, I learned it’s not just biological, it’s spiritual.
Because chronic stress is often the result of spiritual striving.
Trying to control what only God can heal.
And the more I clung to control, the more my peace disappeared. Ever been here?
📖 “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Stillness doesn’t come naturally to a mom in survival mode, but it’s where healing begins.
Faith doesn’t mean pretending everything’s fine.
Faith means admitting you’re not fine and trusting God anyway.
When you’ve been in crisis long enough, your body remembers it.
It holds the fear, the tension, the sleepless nights.
But the same God who heals hearts can heal bodies, too.
He designed us for rest, renewal, and rhythm not chaos and depletion.
📖 “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:2–3
Restoration isn’t lazy, it’s holy.
When I began to slow down, eat real food, get sunlight, pray, and let my body rest, God began to rebuild me.
And here’s the beautiful part: as I healed, my daughter began to heal, too.
Because when a mom finds peace, it ripples through her home.
💜 You Can’t Heal in the Same Chaos That Broke You
If you’re holding it all together by a thread, hear me:
You’re not failing. You’re just human.
You can’t heal while carrying everyone else’s pain.
You can’t rest while trying to control the storm.
And you can’t receive peace if your hands are full of worry.
📖 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
It’s time to put the weight down.
To let God hold what’s too heavy for you.
You don’t have to be the hero of your story, you just have to be faithful to show up, trust, and rest in His strength.
When I think about surrender, I think about Peter in the boat.
The storm was raging, the waves were violent, and fear had everyone frozen.
But when Jesus called Peter to step out of the boat, Peter didn’t calm the storm first he stepped into it. Think about that for a minute? 🤯
He didn’t need control.
He needed trust.
And as long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he stood on the very thing that was meant to sink him.
That’s the truth for us, too.
We can’t control the storms not the diagnoses, not the anxiety, not the heartbreak.
But we can choose who we walk toward in the middle of them.
Because it’s better to be out of the boat with Jesus than stuck in the boat without Him.
So if life feels like a storm right now, stop gripping the sides of the boat trying to steer it yourself.
Let go. Step out.
Fix your eyes on Him.
He’s already walking on the waves that terrify you.
And the second you stop trying to be the hero and start trusting the Healer, peace starts to rise above the chaos.

Lay it down.
Rest your mind.
Rest your body.
Step outside and feel the sun on your face.
Drink the water.
Eat something nourishing.
Take ten minutes just for YOU not to do, fix, or plan, but simply to be.
Because rest isn’t weakness, it’s worship.
Stillness isn’t selfish, it’s strength.
And the same God who calmed the storm will calm your heart too.
You don’t have to prove your worth by pushing harder.
You don’t have to earn peace, you just have to receive it.
