When a Mom’s Body Says ‘Enough’: What I Learned About Burnout, Faith, and Functional Medicine 🦋

By Jenn Robb, MSN, APRN, ACNP-C, FIM-P, FMP-C| Author of Warrior Mom Rising

🩷 The Story Behind the Shift

When I look back on those early days of fighting for Chloe calling therapists, researching medications, trying to find the right fit, I can still feel the exhaustion in my bones.

I was showing up for her with everything I had, but inside, I was running on empty.
The late nights, the anxious thoughts, the constant worry, they didn’t just take a toll on my emotions, they took a toll on my health.

I remember sitting in my car after yet another appointment, hands gripping the steering wheel, whispering, “God, I can’t keep doing this.”
And His response was gentle but clear: “Then stop trying to do it alone.”

That moment marked a turning point not just in how I fought for my child, but in how I began to understand my own body and health.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29

🤯 The Wake-Up Call

I had spent years helping patients in the traditional medical system, writing prescriptions, ordering labs, and checking boxes. But when I hit my own wall of burnout, those tools didn’t work anymore.

I wasn’t eating well, I wasn’t sleeping well, I was gaining weight, and my hormones were completely out of balance. I was exhausted all the time, anxious for no reason, and the harder I pushed through, the worse my symptoms became. My body was sending clear warning signs, but I kept silencing them in the name of “being strong.”

That’s when I realized I didn’t need more willpower. I needed restoration because my body was waving the white flag.

That’s when God began to shift my path toward functional and integrative medicine, a practice that looks deeper, that asks why instead of what.
It was a breath of fresh air to finally connect the dots between my physiology and my faith.

🌿 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… you are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

We weren’t made to just survive. We were made to function fully, body, mind, and spirit.

🩷 What Functional Medicine Taught Me as a Warrior Mom

Functional medicine gave me language for what my spirit already knew, our bodies and souls are deeply connected.

When we live in chronic stress, our adrenals become depleted, our gut health shifts, and our mood spirals. But when we begin to nourish and regulate, everything changes not just for us, but for our families.

Here’s what I’ve learned (and now teach other Warrior Moms):

1️⃣ Stabilize Blood Sugar = Stabilize Emotions
Start every meal with protein and whole foods. It’s not just about nutrition, it’s emotional regulation at the cellular level.

2️⃣ Support Your Adrenals
Rest isn’t weakness; it’s wisdom. Swap caffeine for minerals, sleep deeply, and say “no” without guilt.

3️⃣ Regulate the Nervous System
Prayer, deep breathing, gratitude journaling these are not luxuries. They tell your body, “You are safe.”

When we calm our bodies, we can finally hear God’s voice again.

💛 “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15

💚 My Peptide Reset: Restoring Energy at the Cellular Level

Even after I made lifestyle shifts, I knew I needed more support at the cellular level because chronic stress doesn’t just drain your spirit; it depletes your cells.

That’s when I discovered natural peptides from MAKE Wellness. 🧬

For me, it was a game-changer.
I started using Lean, Fit, Energized, Hydrate, Calm, Focused, and Restore, each one supporting a different layer of recovery and regulation.

Lean helps quiet the food noise so I can control stress eating and actually listen to my body again. It’s been a game-changer for balancing hunger cues and emotional triggers.
Fit supports lean muscle growth and muscle is essential for longevity, hormone balance, and sustainable energy.
Energized gives me clean, natural energy without caffeine, no jitters, no crash, just steady focus.
Hydrate reminds me daily that water and minerals are non-negotiable for mood, energy, and brain clarity.
Calm helps lower cortisol levels and soothe the nervous system (and yes, it literally helps calm your nerves 😅).
Focused sharpens mental clarity, improves concentration, and helps me stay on task especially on the busy days when my mind wants to jump in a hundred directions at once.
And Restore is my favorite nighttime reset. It supports deeper sleep, which is when the body repairs, heals, and does its best restoration work.

These natural peptides became the missing piece for me practical, science-backed tools that align with God’s design for our bodies to heal, restore, and thrive when we give them what they need.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:2–3

And what I love most?
These are science-backed, functional tools that align with the way God designed our bodies to heal, renew, and thrive when given the right support.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2

I always tell moms: you can’t pour from an empty cup, but you can rebuild the cup.
Peptides helped me do that one cell at a time.

✝️ Faith + Function

🌿 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

I used to think surrender meant quitting, like letting go meant giving up. But over time, I realized surrender isn’t weakness; it’s trust. It’s releasing my timeline, my control, my need to hold everything together and placing it back in the hands of the One who already holds it all.

God never asked me to hustle my way through healing. He asked me to walk with Him through it.
To slow down long enough to hear His voice.
To stop fighting the wrong battles and start nurturing the vessel He entrusted to me, my body, my mind, my heart.

Because this body isn’t a burden; it’s a gift.
And when we care for it through rest, nourishment, movement, and faith we’re not being selfish; we’re being stewards.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

Surrender isn’t about stopping the fight, it’s about fighting differently.
It’s trusting that God can do more with our obedience than we ever could with our overexertion.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
