If a Man’s Hormones Shifted Like This, There’d Be 20 Medications: The Truth About Women, Midlife, and the Fire Within

If a Man’s Hormones Shifted Like This, There’d Be 20 Medications: The Truth About Women, Midlife, and the Fire Within🦋
We, WOMEN, carry so much.
We work. We nurture. We lead our households.
We care for our children no matter their ages, our grandchildren, our spouses, aging parents, and everyone in between.
And yet, when our bodies start to change, when hormones shift and energy dips, the world goes silent.
Women’s health, especially sexual health is one of the LEAST talked-about topics in medicine.
If a man’s body started shutting down mentally, emotionally, physically, and sexually at fifty, there would be twenty medications and five commercials to fix it.
But when a woman’s body changes? She’s told, “It’s just part of getting older.”
No. NO. NO.
You are not meant to “just deal with it.”
You deserve answers. You deserve care. And you deserve to feel alive in your body again.
Let’s be real, no one warned us that this part of life could feel like trying to hold it all together while standing in a bonfire.
One minute you’re fine, the next you’re sweating through your sheets, crying over a cereal commercial, and wondering who or what stole your metabolism.
Welcome to perimenopause! The wild ride that reminds us our bodies are changing, our hormones are shifting, and our patience is sometimes hanging by a thread.
But here’s the truth most women NEVER hear:
👉 You are not broken.
👉 You are not “losing it.”
👉 You are walking through one of the most sacred and refining seasons of your life.
And as both a nurse practitioner and a woman walking through it myself, I can tell you this: when the fire feels hotter, it’s not the end, it’s the refinement.
🔬 The Biology Behind the Chaos
Perimenopause that transition leading up to menopause can begin years before your final period.
It’s when estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone start their unpredictable dance sometimes high, sometimes low, always confusing.
Here’s what’s actually happening in your body:
Estrogen and progesterone begin to fluctuate, throwing off everything from mood to metabolism.
Testosterone, which is crucial for muscle tone, energy, motivation, and sexual health, naturally begins to decline often leading to fatigue, decreased libido, and that frustrating sense of “I just don’t feel like myself.”
Cortisol, your stress hormone, stays elevated when you’re constantly “on,” leading to fatigue, anxiety, and stubborn belly fat.
Neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine dip, contributing to mood swings, irritability, and even brain fog.
Sleep, metabolism, and libido change as your body tries to find a new rhythm.
It’s not that you’re lazy, emotional, or “just getting older.”
It’s biology and your body is begging for a new kind of care.
💗 Why I’m So Passionate About This Season
For lots of years, I’ve listened to women pour out their hearts in exam rooms exhausted, frustrated, and often dismissed. They’re told their labs look “normal,” but they know something isn’t right.
In integrative health, I take a different approach, one that looks at the whole woman.
Because we are not just physical bodies.
We are emotional, spiritual, and mental beings beautifully designed and deeply connected.
When one part is out of balance, the rest follows.
I’m passionate about whole-person care because I’ve seen what happens when women finally feel heard.
When we stop masking symptoms and start addressing root causes, hormones, gut health, stress, inflammation, and yes, sexual wellness, real transformation happens.
God didn’t create us to simply push through.
He created us to flourish even here, even now in this crazy season of life.
⚔️ The Warrior Woman Within
Perimenopause isn’t a punishment, it’s a promotion.
This is the season where God strengthens your spirit while your body transitions to a new chapter.
It’s easy to believe the lie that you’re losing yourself, but the truth is:
You’re rediscovering who you were always meant to be.
Just like the Warrior Mom who fights for her family, the Warrior Woman learns to fight for herself , her health, her peace, her purpose, and her joy.
🔥 The hot flashes? Refinement.
💤 The fatigue? An invitation to rest.
💭 The brain fog? A nudge to slow down and listen.
God isn’t breaking you, He’s rebuilding you.
And this fire isn’t meant to consume you, it’s meant to clarify who you are.
🌸 Whole-Person Healing: Science + Spirit in Action
Here’s what I teach my patients (and practice myself): healing happens when you care for the whole woman, body, mind, and spirit.
1. Balance your hormones naturally.
Support your body through nutrient-dense foods, movement, hydration, and individualized supplementation. Peptides and bioidentical options can be powerful allies when used wisely.
2. Lower cortisol and calm your nervous system.
Deep breathing, prayer, journaling, and boundaries help your body remember it’s safe. Stress is one of the biggest hormone disruptors and peace is one of the best medicines.
3. Prioritize deep sleep and recovery.
Your body repairs and resets hormones while you rest. Sleep isn’t lazy; it’s sacred.
4. Move your body with intention.
Strength training, walking, and stretching balance blood sugar, support bone density, and improve mood.
5. Nourish your sexual health.
When estrogen and testosterone decline, intimacy can shift, but this doesn’t have to mean disconnection.
Vaginal dryness, low libido, or discomfort are not “just part of getting older.” With proper hydration, pelvic-floor support, and hormone balance, you can experience vibrant connection and confidence again.
Your sexual health is part of your overall health and it deserves attention, not embarrassment.
6. Practice intentional self-care.
Rest is not weakness, it’s wisdom.
This is the season to refill your cup, not pour from an empty one. Schedule quiet moments, hobbies that bring you joy, and time with people who speak life into you. You cannot serve your family, your patients, or your purpose from depletion.
7. Find a provider who truly sees and hears you.
You deserve a healthcare partner who listens without judgment, explains your options, and believes your symptoms. If you feel dismissed, keep advocating until you’re supported. You are the expert on your body, your voice matters.

8. Consider hormone replacement therapy (HRT) when appropriate.
For many women, bioidentical or compounded HRT can be life-changing restoring sleep, mood, metabolism, and libido. It’s not “one-size-fits-all,” but when guided by a knowledgeable provider, it can help your body regain balance and vitality.
9. Anchor it all in faith.
This is where science meets Spirit. Pray over your health. Speak life over your body.
Invite God into every part of your wellness journey from your hormones to your heart.
🔥 The Call to Rise
If this season feels like too much, hear me:
You are not fading, you are refining.
You are not broken, you are becoming.
God is renewing your strength right here, right now.
He’s teaching you to listen to your body, honor your boundaries, and trust His process.
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
So, Warrior Woman, put your armor back on.
This fire you feel? It’s not meant to destroy you.
It’s shaping you into the strongest, most radiant version of yourself body, mind, and spirit.
Because you were never meant to burn out,
you were meant to burn bright. 🔥
With grit, grace, and a little fire,
