The Day I Realized I Couldn’t Fix My Child and What God Taught Me Instead 🦋
I’ll never forget the moment it hit me. I was exhausted, sitting in the quiet after another long day of tears and heavy conversations with my daughter, and I felt the crushing weight of trying to “FIX” her struggles.
The guilt was overwhelming. I told myself if I had prayed harder, if I had parented better, if I had somehow seen the warning signs sooner, she wouldn’t be battling anxiety and depression.
I talk about nights like this in my book, Warrior Mom Rising. Nights when the weight of my daughter’s struggles felt unbearable, and I didn’t know what else to do but pray and sit with the Lord. I wasn’t pacing halls or holding all the answers, I was simply a mom on her knees, begging God to step in where I couldn’t.
It was in those moments that He reminded me:
“You were never called to fix her. You were called to love her, pray for her, and trust Me.”
That moment changed everything. 🔥
📖 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.” Psalm 55:22
So many of us carry the same lie: “If my child is struggling, it must be my fault.”
The enemy is relentless in whispering, “You’re not enough. You’ve failed. A better mom would have fixed this.”
But here’s the truth: we were NEVER meant to be our child’s savior. That role belongs to Jesus and Jesus alone. Our calling as moms is to be faithful stewards, stewards of the gift God entrusted to us, our children. We are called to love, nurture, advocate, and pray.
📖 “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3
🩷 The Turning Point: Surrender
For me, the breakthrough came when I finally admitted I couldn’t carry the weight anymore. I couldn’t control every thought in her mind. I couldn’t protect her from every dark day.
So I surrendered. I prayed through tears: “God, I can’t fix this. But I trust that You can.”
It did NOT change everything overnight. But what it did bring was PEACE. Peace that I wasn’t alone in the battle. Peace that God loved her even more than I did. Peace that He was working, even in the silence. Remember this, God's delay is NOT His absence!
📖 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6–7
🦋 What God Taught Me in the Process
- I am NOT her healer, God is.
My role is to advocate, nurture, and pray. His role is restoration.
- Healing happens in layers.
Through counseling, rest, nutrition, worship, and prayer, God works. It isn’t instant, but each step is part of His process.
- Faithfulness matters more than perfection.
I don’t have to hold it all together to be a Warrior Mom. I just have to keep trusting Him, even on the hard days.
- Faith requires action.
Trusting God doesn’t mean sitting back and doing nothing. Faith looks like showing up to appointments, advocating in the school system, seeking counseling, feeding their bodies well, and praying over them daily. Faith is active, it moves.
📖 “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17
- Clarity comes from action.
I didn’t always know the “perfect” step to take. But I’ve learned God often reveals the next step after I take the first one. When we move in faith, even when we don’t see the whole picture, He provides clarity along the way.
📖 “Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105
🩷 Encouragement for Moms
If you’re reading this and carrying the weight of guilt, hear me: you don’t have to fix every anxious thought, every panic attack, every tear. That was NEVER your assignment.
Your child doesn’t need you to be perfect. They need you to be present. They need your prayers, your hugs, your advocacy, and your love.
God is in the counselor’s office. He’s in the hospital room. He’s in your living room when you cry after everyone else is asleep. He’s NOT absent, He is everywhere.
📖 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
🔥 Warrior Mom Truth
Momma, today I want you to release the guilt of “not doing enough.” That’s not your burden to carry.
Instead, pray this simple prayer:
“God, I give You what I can’t fix. I trust You with what ONLY You can heal.”
Then ask Him: “Lord, what one step of faith do You want me to take for my child today?”
Because faith isn’t passive, it’s active. And when you take one small step, He will guide the next.
You are not failing. You are faithfully showing up. And that’s EXACTLY what a Warrior Mom does. 🩷
